SHOULD a man should have a wife for the family and a mistress for pleasure?

Now here is the next topic of the month, it’s posted a little early due to computer access at a local hotel given on good will; and I have to take these opportunities while they are being offered to continue my campaign that wrongs violence against women (and update website’s that I have created to support the campaign – http://voicebohx.wix.com/anne and http://fightlikeagrrrl.wix.com/gogrrrrlcombat).

People who respect themselves would most probably say ‘no’, because having more than one women/wife is nothing more than a display of greed. I am aware that there are cultures who put this into practice and over the years have accepted this to be the norm but please do not confuse culture with religion, they are not the same.

In cultures where more than one wife is permitted, the man must have lots of money, enough to buy each wife a house of her own.

This is insulting to first world countries that have acknowledged women’s rights to be human rights and human rights to be women’s right. The worst part of it is that it suggests women are effectively for sale and does not consider the emotional content of each individual female nor her human right to self-determination, as most of the marriages are arranged and the women are required to obey their husbands, which suggests the enslavement of women.

There was a women in MacDonald’s here in Malta with a black eye and a toddler on her hip, she was wearing a headscarf. I looked around the see if she was answering to a man but she was alone at the counter while placing her order in broken English. After collecting her tray of food I followed her upstairs and waited for her to enter the toilet. I entered directly after her. I asked her what happened to her eye, she said it’s her religion to obey her husband and if she doesn’t he will discipline her. I asked what religion might that be that allows women to be beaten by the order of God (which made no sense to me)? She said the Muslim Religion. I did not agree with her, as there are many Muslim’s in Australia who do not practice this way.

It is my experience having studied three different religions and practiced two of them, that there is no God that allows women to be beaten by their husbands. She asked me which religions did I study and I mentioned The Catholic and Buddhist Religion and in my last year of high school, we learned the fundamentals of Islam (because we had a lot of Muslim’s in our catholic girls school trying to integrate into the Australian Culture, but continuing their Muslim Religion by choice – not all wore the head scarf’s, as that was also a choice) and through it we learned mutual respect.

If I remember correctly, nowhere is it written (not in any sacred scripture that I am aware of) where a man has the right to beat his wife into obedience. I asked her if she would like to get some help for her injuries and she declined, saying that next time he’ll kill her!

She left her food on the table untouched and nervously raced out of MacDonalds with her son in her arms in tears. I don’t know where she went it was a very busy Saturday Night.

I RESPECT ALL RELIGIONS and everyone has the right to worship what they choose as long as it does not constitute abuse;;; BUT I HAVE VERY LITTLE TOLERANCE FOR CULTURES THAT ENSLAVE WOMEN, WHICH IS A BREACH TO HUMAN RIGHTS.

RELIGION AND CULTURE ARE NOT ALWAYS THE SAME THING.
